Thank you to everyone who joined us on April 12th at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Hebron for an incredibly moving reading of Julius Lester’s book Day of Tears.
The actors brought to life the deep pain, fear and dehumanization of being sold at auction and separated from loved ones. The Day of Tears commemorates a tragic, heart-breaking day in American history — the day when more than 400 men, women and children were sold at the largest auction of enslaved people in the United States.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the actors and to Laurie Cabral, director of the Day of Tears Touring Company, for bringing this powerful, thought-provoking performance to Hebron.
This event was a rescheduled Martin Luther King Jr day event, where we once again partnered with St. Peter’s Church. Many thanks to Father Ron Kolanowski for his commitment to social justice and to bringing the community together to learn and grow.
Thanks also to Toriana Williams, reporter with the RiverEast News Bulletin, for joining us and writing a beautiful article about the event.
