Chinese Acrobat Dazzles Marlborough Students

Li Liu, a Chinese acrobat dressed in a sparkling red outfit, thrilled the children of Marlborough Elementary School at an assembly on October 29th. The students’ shrieks of wonder and faces told all – wide open eyes, looks of disbelief, and one little girl even put her hands on her face – Home Alone style.

Li Liu artfully demonstrated a variety of skills learned from her father at a young age, including Chinese plate spinning, body contortions on top of table, dancing with colorful streamers and daring tricks on the bicycle, including backwards. She selected volunteer children in several of the acts, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The entire audience practiced “Ni hao ma!” (How are you?) in Mandarin  Chinese. Upbeat music accompanied all of her acts.

The Marlborough children were split into two groups – 30 minutes for Kindergarten through second grade and 45 minutes for third to sixth grade. Children and adults alike enjoyed the experience of watching a traditional Chinese acrobat.

The assembly was co-sponsored by the Marlborough PTO and CoDE, one in a series of multicultural assemblies the two partners have hosted over the past two years.
