Day of Tears Performance

Each year, CoDE partners with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church to hold a special event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We’ve viewed and discussed films and listened to concerts of early African American composers. All were meaningful and a powerful reminder of how Dr. King’s message resonates in our world today.

This year, we have the opportunity to witness and reflect on a tragic day in American history, the day when more than 400 enslaved men, women and children were sold. On Sunday, January 18th, we’ll gather at at St. Peter’s Church in Hebron to hear powerful staged readings of the voices of those men, women and children. They are based on the novel, Day of Tears by Julius Lester.

We encourage you to read the book prior to the event and to mark your calendars for this very special event!
